Did she really say that? Was that what she’d meant? Could there have been a colossal misunderstanding or perhaps a flaw in translation? It hadn’t helped that the old bird had persisted, even in those few critical moments, with her addled rhymes and innuendos. If her message had been so incendiary, why on earth didn’t she just spit it out in plain English?

Whatever her motivations, she was dead within days; a plausible demise, all things considered, but the survival instinct had kicked in immediately for the younger woman. With her suspicions confirmed, fight or flight were her only options.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The author and his wife live in rural Suffolk, England. Their adult children are dispersed about the globe offering handy stop-overs for their international travels. In the last couple of years before Covid they enjoyed two lengthy trips to Australia and Asia, a visit to the jungles of Belize in Central America, and a snow-bound week in the French Alps for some great skiing. In addition, he simply couldn’t omit mention of a fabulous week in early April in Northumberland, the county of his birth, and still one of the most unspoiled corners of the great English countryside.

Next on the itinerary was Canada, and then a two-part trip to safari in South Africa followed by a week in the beautiful island of Mauritius, which Oliver hadn’t visited since 1979! But then along came the so-called ‘pandemic’ and all bets were off. So what happened next ?
